Bird News Sunday 9th March

Portmuck Islandmagee had 16 Red-throated Diver and 12 harbour porpoise. Blackhead near Whitehead had 6 Red-throated Diver (Ian Enlander)

400+ Common Scoter, 20+ Red throated Diver, 12Great Northern Divers and around 10 Great crested Grebes were off Newcastle harbour this morning (Chris Henry)

A Great-spotted Woodpecker was heard drumming from Lagan Towpath, near the wooden bridge into Belvoir Forest (Philip McErlean / Ron Price)

At Greyabbey Bay were 20 Slavonian Grebe, 9 Black-throated Diver, 6 Red-throated Diver and 5 Great-northern Diver. (Richard Weyl)

A Slavonian Grebe was seen off Croaghan Hide at Oxford Island, Lough Neagh. Originally seen at distance abd thought to be a Black-necked Grebe, the finder believes it was Slavonian (Ciaran Burns)

A Sand Martin was seen today at Portmore Lough (Irish Birding)

850 Common Scoter, 70 Red throated Divers, 30 Great Northern Divers, 1 Black-throated Diver and 2 Porpoises off Newcastle Hbr. Drake Ring-necked Duck on Tullyratty Dam, Nr Castleward. (Chris and Tim Murphy, Doris Noe)

The drake American Wigeon was seen again at Reedy Flats, Lough Neagh (Birdguides)
