Bird News Saturday 16th February

A Goshawk was at Oxford Island today (Connor & Donal Foley)

The Waxwings are back in Comber. A flock of 19 birds feeding on berries and catching insects in Ardarawood this afternoon. (Chris Shaw).

At 11am approx 30 Waxwings were on electric wires at the entrance to Kings Park primary school, Avenue Rd. Lurgan (J. Crozier & D Cassells)

A second winter Caspian Gull was at Enniskillen Tip (Birdguides).

2 Bewick Swans were at Portmore, a flock of Whooper Swans was also present including one bird with a yellow neck collar. 200 Greylag were at Derrytrasna west of Oxford Island, 6 of the birds in the flock had orange neck collars, 2 that were readable were A/BI and A/BJ. (Ed O'Hara).

There were 2 Waxwings flying along the Drumfad Rad in Millisle this morning (David McCormick)

5 Med Gulls and 2 Long-tailed Ducks were around Larne Lough today (Neal Warnock)

A female Brambling was visiting a garden on the north coast (Dick Glasgow).

Sightings around Newcastle included a Peregrine being mobbed by Hooded Crows, 250 Brent Geese, 40 Greylag Geese in flight, a Knot, 3 Purple Sandpiper, 2 Twite, 5 Rock Pipit and 2 Grey Wagtail. (Alistair Prentice).

Yesterday a Little Egret was in Victoria Park in Belfast. (Lindsay Hodges).

A Merlin was seen perched at Foylegrange Road off the A5 between Burndennet and Bready, Co. Tyrone. (Brian Hegarty).

15/20 Snow Bunting and a Ringed Plover were at the old landfill site along Hightown Road above Glengormley (Larry Toal).
