Bird News Wednesday 9th January

The drake American Wigeon was on the tidal pool to the west of the Drowes River at Tullaghan, Co. Leitrim (Seamus Feeney)

2 Goosander (an immature male and a female) were at Portmore Lough (Dave Allen).    

9 Waxwing were between Dunhill store and Moy Park Chicken along Larne Link Road in Ballymena (Jeff Larkin).        

A possible Great White Egret has been along Luney Road between Magherafelt and Desertmartin since about Christmas. This may be another sighting of the one reported on 17th December at Warrenpoint (John Stewart)

The adult Mediterranean Gull and 35 Common Scoter were at Loughshore on the Antrim side of Belfast Lough (Stuart McKee).

The 2nd winter Iceland Gull was still near McConnell's Weir in Belfast this morning. (Bird Guides).

A Woodcock flew across the Armagh Road near Richhill at 5.10pm this evening. (Andrew Poots)

2 Merlins were on Rathlin - 0ne male and one female. Also 5 Redwings and a male Goldeneye at Ushet Lough (Colin Guy)

The Cattle Egret was still at St Johnstone, Co Donegal (Seamus Feeney)
