Bird News Saturday 5th January

20 Waxwings were fly-catching from the top of a tall tree at the junction of the Prince William and Ballymacash Roads in Lisburn. (Ed O'Hara)

2 female type Goosander are still at Portmore Lough (Keith Bennett / David Nixon)

Also 1 male ruddy duck at Portmore, 5 male ruddy duck at Oxford Island (Keith Bennett)

A Brambling was also seen at Portmore (David Nixon)

The Little Gull is still at the north Balancing Lake in Craigavon, see picture below. (Ed O'Hara).

A Little Egret flew across the Charlestown Road in Portadown this morning. (Robert Prentice)

Killybegs in Co Donegal had 4 Glaucous Gulls and 2 Iceland Gulls (Brad Robson)

A Chiffchaff was in a garden at Groomsport (Sam Scott)

At Island Magee 25 Red-throated Diver were around Muck Island (Fulton Somerville, Janet McKevitt)

An adult Mediterranean Gull, 5 Red-throated Diver and 12 Pale-bellied Brent were at Larne (Gerard McGeehan)

2 Great Northern Divers were at Carnlough Bay (Pauline Majury)

2 ringed Brent were with 9 Brent Geese at Whiteabbey Loughshore this morning, one bird had a yellow 2 and a green N ring, the other had a yellow 3 and a green K, see picture below, also present were 32 Ringed Plover (Jim McKeown)

The Cattle Egret was still at the pig farm St Johnstone, Co Donegal. The drake Smew was at Inch and 22 Pink-footed Geese at Blanketnook (Robert Vaughan and Peter Phillips)
