Bird News Monday 8th October

A Barn Owl was at Ballymacbrennan crossroads on the Lisburn - Temple road at 5.45 this morning. (Ed O'Hara).

A first-winter Mediterranean Gull was at Antrim Road Waterworks in Belfast (David Knight).

Late news from yesterday, Portmuck had 30 Skylark, 1 Peregrine, 1 Buzzard, 1 Sparrowhawk, and 3 Swallow. Black Head had 45 Goldfinch, 1 Swallow, 3 Goldcrest and 25 Gannet feeding. Also at Black Head were 11 Harbour Porpoise and 3 Bottlenose Dolphin - one of the Bottlenose Dolphins was seen apparently attacking a Harbour Porpoise - the latter seen to leave the water sideways presumably a result of impact. (Ian Enlander).

Thanks to Craig Nash for the picture of the Skylark, taken at Killard, Ed O'Hara for the picture of the Little Egret and Alistair Prentice for the picture of a Gannet.
